Outside in Montparnasse
I head for tower and monument
grey stone and white sky
Paris is green and alive
softness of the streets as the lime falls
and you are there beside me.

I cup the apple in my hand and think of Annie
roll the peeler slowly round its curves
It fills my small fingers as it would have done hers.
In its flecked skin I seek a window
and step through soft contours
to find her
